Get a behind the scenes look at the BACBrass through the tuba Backstage. Join Backstage to interact with veterans of the Boston Crusaders while learning from instructors including Gino Cipriani, Jarrett Lipman, and more. If you are a beginner, intermediate, or advanced tuba player, Backstage is your place to learn, refine, and perfect your musical and visual skills to earn a position in a drum corps, marching band, or indoor ensemble.

    Learn the BACBrass technique and warm-ups and technique heard in the lot. Learn the exercises the BACBrass use year-round including Game of Thrones and #ThatWasLoud. Backstage members will also receive music from past shows Goliath, S.O.S., and Wicked Games.

Instructors

Brass Caption Head

Gino Cipriani

Gino Cipriani has served as the Brass Caption Head of the Boston Crusaders since 2017. Gino received his Bachelor of Music Degree in Instrumental Education from the University of Mississippi and his Master of Science in Music Education from Towson University. As a student at Ole Miss, he studied trumpet performance under the guidance of Dr. Charles Gates. He also had the great pleasure of studying trumpet under Roy Poper when he attended California State University at North Ridge. Over his ## years of experience, Gino has served as the caption head for The Cadets, Cadets 2, Santa Clara Vanguard, the Reading Buccanears, Magic of Orlando, and as an instructor for the Blue Devils. Gino is an esteemed consultant and adjudicator has to marching bands, jazz bands, concert bands and drum and bugle corps across the United States, Canada and Korea.

Brass Caption Manager

Jarrett Lipman

Jarrett Lipman is the Director of Bands at Claudia Taylor “Lady Bird” Johnson High School in San Antonio, Texas. Lipman is the Brass Caption Manager of the Boston Crusaders Drum Corps, and prior to that, was on the Brass Staff at the Cadets Drum Corps from 2010-2016.At Johnson High School, Lipman directs the Marching Band, co-conducts the Wind Ensemble, and assists with the Symphony Band, Concert Bands, and Jazz Ensembles. The CT Johnson High School Marching Band earned the Bronze Medal at the 2014 UIL State Marching Contest, is an 8-time BOA Regional Champion, Sudler Shield Award Recipient, and . Lipman graduated with dual degrees in Music Education and Euphonium Performance from the Mason Gross School of the Arts at Rutgers University. While at Mason Gross, Lipman studied Euphonium in the studios of Professor Scott Mendoker, and the late Professor Bill Kellerman.

Visual Caption Head

Aaron Bailey

Aaron has been active in the marching arts activity teaching and performing since 2000. While Aaron studied business and design at Western Michigan University, he was a performer with the Glassmen Drum and Bugle Corps and then later the Santa Clara Vanguard Drum and Bugle Corps. After his performance career Aaron worked with several top high school marching band programs around the Midwest including; Centergrove HS, Centerville HS, Mason HS, Northmont HS, and Plymouth Canton HS. Teaching marching & movement techniques and assisting in visual designs, Aaron currently works with Lawrence Township marching pride. Before joining the Boston Crusaders staff in 2017, Aaron had taught with several other Drum and Bugle Corps including the Blue Stars, Bluecoats, Crossmen, and most recently Carolina Crown where he helped the corps win a World Championship and three visual titles. Aaron has also served on the staff for RhythmX and Spirit of America.

  • Do I need my own instrument?

    You will need an instrument when submitting assessments but instruments are not required for participation. If it is not possible to obtain an instrument for assessments, please contact info@bostoncrusaders.org.

  • Can I sign up for more than one section?

    Yes! Check out our multi-section bundles by clicking "register" at the top of the page!

  • Is this how I audition for the Boston Crusaders?

    Yes, membership candidacy will be based off Backstage assessments and evaluations. We have positions available in all sections.

  • Do I need to sign-up for Backstage to audition? Do I have to audition?

    Yes, you must sign up for Backstage if you wish to audition for the Boston Crusaders. Audition requirements will be made available within the Backstage program. No, signing up for Backstage does not mean you have to audition. Backstage is a valuable tool to help you refine your skills, whether or not you are pursing a position with the Boston Crusaders.

  • Is there an age limit?

    No! Backstage is open to all regardless of age. If you are an educator, please stay tuned for future programs tailored to assist your classroom and students.

  • Is there a deadline to sign-up?

    No, but it is recommended to sign up early for maximum value. Although tools are available all year long, membership positions will be awarded based on the on-going evaluations and assessment that begin in October.

  • Is my purchase refundable?

    No, all sales are final. Please contact us at info@bostoncrusaders.org if you experience difficulty at checkout.
